A new concept of zoo

Different from everything you know about the old zoo, BioParque do Rio has come to write a new chapter in the history of species conservation in Brazil and to be the setting for many unforgettable memories you will build with your family.

IMPERIAL NEIGHBORHOOD AND
QUINTA DA BOA VISTA

BioParque do Rio is located in Quinta da Boa Vista, in the heart of São Cristóvão, also known as the Imperial Neighborhood. Once the former residence of the royal family, today Quinta da Boa Vista brings together history, nature, culture, and leisure. It is also one of the largest urban parks in Rio de Janeiro, covering approximately 155,000 square meters.

Get to know BioParque

Check out the new areas that you, your family, and friends will see in this incredible transformation:

AFRICAN SAVANNA

The home of some emblematic species of terrestrial life! Known for its long periods of drought followed by rainy seasons, here you will have the opportunity to meet species that survive extreme conditions and that have existed in our imagination since childhood!

CARNIVORES

Some species in this environment are easy to find in almost all of Brazil's territory, but they are endangered. Despite their small size, they have great abilities, sharp teeth, and claws for capturing prey.

ASIANS

This is the home of one of the largest and most intelligent species on the planet! Can you identify which one it is? Asia has one of the largest territories on Earth, so it has various types of vegetation and climates, which vary its soil and the lifestyle of both people and animals.

TROPICAL IMMERSION

In this environment, you will find species from various tropical ecosystems. Some of these species that participate in the conservation projects of BioParque do Rio are endangered. Get ready for an immersive experience of colors, sounds, and movements.

REPTILE VILLAGE

Here live species that use the warmth of the sun to maintain their body temperature, so it is very common to find them basking in the sun! Some are predators and occupy the top of the food chain. Discover a world of snakes, alligators, and turtles.

PRIMATE ISLAND

In this environment, you will find species that belong to the largest tropical rainforest in the world. Of the 156 primate species found in South America, 60% are in the Brazilian Amazon. In addition to hosting approximately 20% of all species of fauna on the planet, the Amazon rainforest is extremely important for climate maintenance worldwide.

KINGS OF THE JUNGLE

This environment is home to well-known predators. Some have nocturnal habits and can leap distances of over 10 meters and reach speeds of 80 km/h when running. Others have a jaw strength greater than that of any others of their species. Are you ready to discover who they are?

CERRADO

The Cerrado is the second largest biome in Brazil, and about 5% of all the planet's biodiversity can be found within it. Present in all five regions of the country, it is a biodiversity reserve with several species exclusive to this biome, and they are endangered. Therefore, its conservation is of utmost importance.

JARDIM BURLE MARX

This garden was conceived from a project by one of Brazil and the world's greatest landscape architects, Roberto Burle Marx. He developed this project for the Rio de Janeiro Zoo in 1946, conceptualizing a place for aquatic birds. Other projects you should be familiar with are Flamengo Park, Ibirapuera Park, the gardens of the Alvorada Palace, and the Garden of the Museum of Modern Art.
